Hanna then regularly wrote to Michael, and he found her letters enjoyable and keenly insightful, but he always responded by sending tape after tape. Ch.7 Michael received a letter from the prison warden, and he was told that Hanna would be released in about one year. Hanna requested that Michael take part in re-socializing Hanna after her release. Michael was troubled by the news but decided he would assist her. However, he did not respond to the warden until the warden called Michael after a year. Finally, Michael agreed to help. Ch.8 Michael traveled to the prison where he briefly met the warden and then he met Hanna. He saw her sitting in the yard and was stunned by her aged appearance. Hanna grown fat and frumpy. He sat by her and remembered that she used to smell of soap, perfume and sex. Now, she smelled like an old woman. Hanna and Michael made a talk. At first, Hanna was very excited to see Michael. When she found that he was emotionally distant and no longer a child, the sparkle went out of her eye. Michael told Hanna about his life since their relationship, and returned home.
